Also known as the HATTERSLEY CLUB, it has been providing a venue for visually impaired people to meet since about 1980. Brian McKenzie, who’s been a member for more than twelve years explains, "We do all sorts of crafts, have a laugh with quizzes and visit Dukinfield library every month to change our audio books. We also have trips out in the summer months and go for meals too. It’s about companionship and getting out of the house."
Mavis Crowther is the volunteer organiser of the group and has recently been joined by volunteer June Burns, who helps with arts and crafts.
Vernon Woodhouse, a member for more years than he wishes to think about, adds, "We’ve been really busy making photo frames and cards; you’ll find them on display at the Centre. We recently sold fifteen frames."
Lunch is available from either the cafeteria or the over 60s’ luncheon club.
The group welcomes anyone who has a visual impairment to join them on Tuesdays for fun and friendship.
Contact Brian McKenzie on Tuesdays between 9.30am and 2.00pm at the Community Centre on 0161 368 8513.
